Sleepwalker – The Voyage LP (Especial)

Label: Especial
Release Date: 2006-10-30
Genre: Jazz
Rating: rating5.gif

‘The Voyage’ is the second long player from the Japanese jazz outfit Sleepwalker and was released last summer (ouch, it’s over is it?) on cd by ‘Village Again’. The album featured the two tracks from the earlier single featuring Bembe Segue and Pharoah Sanders, and six more new productions. Five of those will now come out on a special vinyl edition through the usual Especial label.
If you’ve not yet bought the import cd, you’ll be in for a treat. As on their self titled debut, Nakamura, Yoshizawa, Sugimoto and Fuji are on top form! More spiritual then Soil & Pimp, more mature then Quasimode and deeper then Indigo Jam Unit, Sleepwalker are still the best you can get if it comes to todays dancefloor jazz. 4 instrumental pieces on this 12, with Ai-No-Tabi instantly making it to my top list of favourite tracks even after 2 listens – modern day classic if you ask me – and Afloat featuring the tiny but oh-so-great Yukimi Nagano singing ‘Is heaven too far?’. Only 1 more month. This will be out on the 30th of October, so make sure you’ve reserved a special place in your Expedit by then.
